AMSG’s Founder and former CEO and President Mike McCormick is making headlines. It’s been two years since Mike handed the reins over to Jim O’Farrell, but that hasn’t stopped him from staying active and getting involved in extracurricular activities. Now AMSG’s Director of Business Development, Mike serves as a volunteer coach of Virginia’s Henley Middle School’s track and field team.

Under his tutelage, the Henley athletes took home the trophy at the first-ever Albemarle County Middle School Invitational meet. “The team won at least one medal in almost every event, and swept the top spots in girls’ shot put, discus throw, and 7th grade 200m, and boys’ 6th grade 100m, 7th grade 400m, and 7th grade 800m. Team members Katelyn Cusick, Keelan Shepley-Mrazek, Noble Cooper, and Reid Vagnetti came away with four medals each in a diverse array of events, and nine other team members earned three medals each.”

Beyond coaching, Mike regularly drives team members to and from meets. He secured a yearly $1,500 sponsorship provided by AMSG, and to better organize meets, he adopted and helped implement new software across several schools in the county.

Congratulations to the Henley team and kudos to Mike for his outstanding leadership. Read the full story, including commentary from Mike and his involvement and the Henley athletes and their harrowing win in the Henley Track Coach Guides a Winning Team article published in The Crozet Gazette.
