The transition from college life to the real world is a dynamic time in one’s life. For one individual, the journey from academia to full-time employment has been a transformative experience filled with learning and the joy of newfound freedom. Meet Ethan Taylor, a 2024 George Mason University (GMU) graduate; an outdoor enthusiast with interests in photography, science, and all things overlanding; and one of AMSG’s newest employees.

“I’ve been part of the AMSG family for just over a year now,” Ethan says. “Starting as an Operations Intern, I had the privilege of growing into roles such as a part-time Operations Analyst. I now serve as a Junior Budget Management Specialist on our Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Information and Technology, Compliance, Risk, and Remediation Business Office contract and am enjoying the newness of life after college and the beginning of my career!”

“Academically, I felt confined in the public education setting where there was a lot of textbook learning and no hands-on or real-world application. But when I interned here at AMSG, it was really interesting to put different pieces of what I learned at GMU to the real world,” he reflects. “Personally, a huge weight has been lifted where I feel I have no academic responsibility except what I put on myself. I look forward to being in the workforce where I can apply my college education to real application.”

Having studied Business Analytics, Ethan brings a fresh perspective to the company and his current role. Choosing to join AMSG on a full-time basis was an easy decision rooted in AMSG’s culture and growth opportunities. “AMSG is truly something special. The culture that has been developed here is outstanding. I feel like I’m part of a family,” he says. “That ‘family feel’ is one of the many reasons why I accepted a full-time position with AMSG. I’m encouraged that AMSG will be a place to learn and provide growth opportunities.”

Looking to the future, he envisions a balanced life where professional achievements and personal milestones intertwine. “In the next five years, I hope to advance my career in addition to pursuing personal goals like buying and renovating a home,” he shares.

And while he’s still fairly new to the world of government contracting, he’s eager to learn more and apply his academic foundation to his new role. “I’m confident I can put my analytic skills in data management and visualization to help our team develop more efficient and improved processes overall. My mentality is to ‘keep learning’, but I hope I can relay some of my academic experience to our team,” he expresses.

Ethan’s future is bright. Flagged with growth and dedication, he is poised to make a meaningful impact while embracing opportunities that lie ahead. His story is a reminder that in a supportive environment, every transition becomes an opportunity for growth and success.
