We recently caught up with former AMSG team member Dave Houck to see where life has taken him since his time with us. From his roots in Ruston, Louisiana, to his continued service with the Training and Education Command, Dave’s journey is one of purpose, impact, and staying true to his values—both in and out of uniform.
Dave Houck grew up in Ruston, Louisiana, but his journey has taken him far beyond his hometown. Since his early years, Dave wanted to be in the Marine Corps, eventually turning that dream into reality, where he was a part of an air crew as an Aerial Gunner. His dedication to service has extended beyond that role, as he participated in humanitarian efforts, providing aid in San Juan after Hurricane Maria and later spending time in Honduras with the Marine Corps. Later in his military career, he transitioned into a role within the Training and Education Command (TECOM) where he contributed to the development of Marines across all ranks.
After ending his service in the Marine Corps, Dave came onboard at AMSG. Dave’s first month with the company was a memorable one as he recalls attending AMSG’s Marine Corps Breakfast, where he bonded with the CEO, Jim O’Farrell. He recalls it as an experience that most companies would never offer, like the company trip that gave him an opportunity to return to Honduras for humanitarian work. He appreciates the transparency within AMSG and values the opportunities to engage with leadership, including town halls and “Java with Jim.” He also believes in the importance of personal connections in the workplace and advocates bringing back employee check-in calls. Words of advice to new and future AMSGers reading this is to get involved in company events and contribute to their 401Ks.
Dave has been married since 2012. He and his wife share their home with their Yorkie Poo, Barkley. Outside of work, Dave is passionate about motorcycles and rides a 2023 Indian Challenger. He took advantage of the company’s hobby program to support his love for riding. Dave ultimately returned to the Training and Education Command, this time as a civilian employee taking on a role that closely aligns with his military background at TECOM. His career path from Marine to civilian has been defined by dedication, service, and a commitment to making a difference.
