HIRE Vets Gold Medallion

AMSG is proud to announce that the Acting Secretary of Labor, Julie A. Su, recognized AMSG as a recipient of the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans (HIRE Vets) Act of 2017 HIRE Vets Gold Medallion Award.

The HIRE Vets Medallion Awardd is the only federal-level veterans’ employment award that is earned by businesses that demonstrate unparalleled commitment to recruiting, hiring, and retaining veterans. Recipients of the 2023 HIRE Vets Medallion Awards meet rigorous employment and veteran integration assistance criteria, including veteran hiring and retention and providing veteran-specific resources.

AMSG joins other companies from all across the country, who have not only shown a commitment to hiring veterans, but also ensuring that they have a long-term career and growth plan that uses the diverse skills they acquired through their military service.

Veteran Resource Group

Our Veteran Resource Group (VRG), established in 2022, is dedicated to supporting the integration of new Veteran team members within our organization.

The Purpose of the VRG is to build a Community among AMSG’s Veterans!

Being a part of the VRG means:

  • Staying informed about upcoming lunches, tours, and activities.
  • Participating in service days where we support the Veterans in our community.
  • Connecting with others to collaborate and explore opportunities like our mentorship program.

The VRG focuses on three key areas:

  • Connect: Members build internal relationships, providing networking and support.
  • Serve: Members use their roles at AMSG to make positive changes in the community through service.
  • Inform: Members raise awareness about the unique challenges and opportunities Veterans face.

Human Resources Veterans Initiative

AMSG highly values its Veteran team members and their extensive experience. Our Human Resources Veterans Initiative recruits Veterans through platforms like the Marine Executive Association. Once hired, AMSG ensures all new employees undergo mandatory training. We also collaborate with Insperity to provide specialized technical training, offering access to more than 3,000 courses for continuous skill development, empowering Veterans to acquire new expertise. We prioritize Veteran retention, emphasizing a satisfied workforce with our dedicated Employee Engagement Team and fostering a positive work environment. We offer programs such as the Hobby Program, which allocates $1,000 for each employee’s hobby, promoting a healthy work-life balance. Our CEO engages with team members by sending weekly text messages, enhancing leadership engagement. Additionally, we show our appreciation through personalized birthday cards, monthly recognition awards, contests, and events.

Mentorship Program

AMSG is proud of our Veteran Mentorship Program which is a part of our Veteran Resource Group.

Veteran mentoring programs create peer support among Veterans in the civilian workplace. They form a voluntary one-on-one relationship between a junior Veteran team member and a senior mentor. They assist the Veteran team member with their personal and professional growth in an organization focusing on helping the Veteran team member adjust to the civilian workplace culture and reach their full potential within the organization. Such a program is voluntary, bringing Veterans together in a trusted and comfortable environment.

For potential mentees, this is a great opportunity to connect with a mentor who can offer insight, advice, opportunity – and help navigate the next stage(s) of a career. By being mentored by a fellow Veteran who has experienced the same transition uncertainties, mentees won’t feel alone … mentees will feel understood. It has been said that team members with a mentor transition from military service to the corporate environment more successfully and with less stress and uncertainty and are five times more likely to get promoted.

For potential mentors, this is a great opportunity to give back, become a better leader, and refine skills and networks. In sharing expertise and experiences, mentors are leaving a legacy and guiding another Veteran’s career path while gaining an opportunity to review and reenergize personal career goals.

We are excited to see the mentorships and outcomes which evolve from this initiative.
